Dr. Julie Madsen was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin. She received her bachelor’s
degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1971. She was am art teacher for several
years. In addition, she worked for the Richard Simmon’s Anatomy Asylum in
Chicago in 1984-1986. In 1986 she went back to school with an interest in psychology.
She graduated with a master’s degree in counseling psychology from National
University, Palm Springs, CA in 1988. She went on to get her doctorate degree
in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in
Los Angeles, CA. Since her graduation in 1992, Dr. Madsen has worked with a variety
of problems with children and adults from the age of 3 years old through 91 years
old.
In 1995 she began to work with neurofeedback, a type of biofeedback that exercises
the brain enabling it to operate at its optimal level. This has powerful effects
on the entire body, and is an effective way to treat epilepsy, ADHD, anxiety,
depression, sleep disorders, addictions and chronic pain with out drugs or surgery.
Currently, Dr. Madsen uses neurofeedback in conjunction with psychotherapy
to address a variety of problems. She is excited to be a part of a comprehensive
team to address weight control, as this has been an area that has lacked services
and support in the desert communities.
