Dr. Raila Horne specializes in behavioral medicine and health psychology. She has extensive experience working with a variety of patients who suffer from both chronic medical conditions and psychological distress brought on by such conditions. Some of her specialty areas include pain management, pre and post surgical counseling, cancer, diabetes, sleep disorders, post traumatic stress, sexual abuse, depression, relationship and sexual problems, weight management, smoking cessation, stress management and relaxation training.

Dr. Horne was born in Helsinki, Finland and speaks six languages. She relocated to the United States in 1982 and graduated from CSPP with a specialization in health psychology. She has trained at UCSF Mt. Zion Hospital, San Francisco VA Medical Center, Honolulu VA Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco, California. She is currently affiliated with the Kaiser Permanente Pain Management Center in San Francisco, Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Eisenhower Memorial Hospital in Rancho Mirage and the Breast Health Center in Indio, California. In addition to these affiliations, Dr. Horne also conducts neuropsychological evaluations and sees patients with a variety of psychological concerns at her private practice locations in Corte Madera, Palm Desert and Palm Springs, California, and is in the process of publishing a book on the interdisciplinary management of chronic pain conditions and their psychological implications.

Dr. Horne will be an active participant in Desert Women’s Health providing services to all interested parties participating in the interdisciplinary health promotional packages provided by our group. These interdisciplinary services include comprehensive health management by our physicians, psychologist, physical therapist, nutritionist, exercise specialists etc. and will provide participants with more effective and longer lasting health management strategies.
